Pa Pa Joe’s Studio is a fully-equipped music rehearsal and production facility in the heart of Southall: a thriving area with a worldwide reputation for its Indian music and culture. The initial inception for a sound studio began some twenty years ago amidst this background.

The idea formed at a time when the early Bhangra bands, including world-renowned heavyweights such as Premi, Alaap, Heera and Holle Holle, were captivating the hearts of the community with their traditional style of Punjabi folk music full of Western influences. A budding young DJ/sound engineer called Joe Jutla become passionate about the music scene and knew from this early on that music was his most important mission.

Joe and his friends and family began by providing the live sound systems required for any performances – not only within the U.K. but also across various parts of the world wherever Indian music needed their services. This experience in stage sound-engineering, launched Joe’s vision of setting up a complete sound production studio based in the UK .

Armed with nothing more than a bank loan, Joe and his band of merry-men set up their own P.A. Company specialising and catering for the growing trend in the Bhangra music industry. Joe’s company provided live stage equipment for hire, lease and sale. By the end of the 1980’s and into the start of the early 1990’s, Joe’s firm had firmly established themselves as the number one P.A. equipment providers to the stars of Punjabi and Indian music whilst touring in the UK and abroad. The likes of Malkit Singh (Golden Star), Achanak, AS Kang, Premi, Heera, Alaap, Gurdass Mann, Asa Singh Mastana, Surinder Shinda, Kuldip Manak, Raja Kaka, Safri Boys, Bombay Talkie, Apna Sangeet, Satrang, XLNC are just some of the names that Joe worked with during this successful period.

With their reputation growing amongst the Asian community, Joe seized the initiative and began to open the door to his personal residence in the heart of Southall to provide somewhere for bands to rehearse, re-group and practice before attending any major event. A recording lounge was also constructed to widen the type of service on offer. However, seeing the huge demand that such a facility generated just within the London Asian community, it soon became clear that a simple residential property was not enough to satisfy the growing numbers of customers wanting to use such a facility in the west London area.

Throughout the 1990’s Joe was on the lookout for a big premises that could cater for the vision that he had in mind. His ambition was to open a full state-of-the-art Rehearsal, Recording and Mastering Studio to rival any in the London area for musical enthusiasts from all genres of musical taste.

Finally in 2002, an ideal allotment was identified on Merrick Road - opposite the Sunrise Radio building. This plot gave Joe the potential to achieve his dream of a fully functioning modern studio. With the purchase of the property now complete, the planning and design phases began, followed by almost a year of hard graft.

Hard work, dedication and faith culminated in the official opening of Papa Joe’s Sound Studios on 10th October 2003. On attendance for the opening were familiar faces from the world in Indian music, TV and radio.

By now PaPa Joe's was unstoppable. Next was India.
